National Day Celebrations at Kallang River

We celebrated the nation's 37th birthday aboard Dreamss, which proved to be a totally refreshing change from previous National Days spent camping out in front of the telly. The plan was to view the fireworks from a distance while being moored on Kallang River.

Catching the view of the amazing skyline of the CBD
- a physical reminder of Singapore's economic progression.

The day began typically enough ,when the fourteen of us met at the marina, armed with our bags of assorted munchies. Soon enough, Dreamss began her leisurely journey towards the Esplanade.

A few of us spent the journey on the top deck of the boat, while those who were less prone to sea sickness had free reign of both the external and the internal of the boat. In the case of the latter, this meant a short session of karaoke , however ironic that one should sing about the green green grass of home while cruising the high seas at 10 knots an hour.

We even managed to squeeze in a screening of, uh, A Perfect Storm. No Kidding.

The great thing about having day-outs with tribal elders( i.e parents) is that there will never be the lack of great food to whet the appetite.

For dinner, we feasted on comfort foods that evoked childhood party memories. Fried beehoon doused in sweet bottled chilli, lovely layered agar-agar and a humongous selection of fried goodies. All washed down with juice and beer, chilled of course (thank goodness for the cooler in the mini kitchenette!)

Because with a good view of the fireworks on a breezy evening , soaking in the euphoric atmosphere of the hordes congregated on both sides of the esplanade in the company of family and friends at that-- save for the fact the my brother's efforts to capture the night spectacle of fireworks on film were amusingly thwarted by the gentle bobbing of the vessel.

This was about as good as it gets.
